Did you know that all geneology sites, like Ancestry.com, MyHeritage.com, AmericanAncestors.org etc. all use a common file type called a gedcom. And you can easily export your gedcom file and share it with us, which will expand our records by incorporating research you’ve already done.

This site is a "read only" resource - like a library

We professionally review and properly load resources as they are submitted, to assist you with your own research and interest. As such, we encourage you to submit any family tree research you might have!

On this site you may review source references which have been in the archives of the various genealogists of the CBSI. Many of these references were in the personal collection of former CBSI genealogist, Donal Buchanan and you can observe his notations on the pages.

Some are only a page or two, some are much longer. The file names are as they were entered by the previous genealogists, spelling mistakes and all!

No documents, references or gedcom files are allowed to be downloaded from the site, nor can pdf copies be made.

As you review this information, it is expected and required that any contact information which might be shown will be ignored. Many of these records are old enough that any contact information will be outdated, however strict adherence to privacy laws is expected.

Despite our best efforts, some of these records may not be 100% verified: be sure to verify anything that you may believe pertains to your lineage, utilizing best practices.

There are fillable pdf genealogical forms that can be downloaded & filled for your own research and for submission to the Society archives. You may review various reference books that may be useful in your own research and access links to purchase those books or review them online.

A new chief, proven by Genealogy!

Clan Buchanan has appointed its first clan Chief in 337 years.

The Clan will be led by John Michael Baillie-Hamilton Buchanan, who first made his claim to the title more than 20 years ago.

It follows decades of research conducted by renowned genealogist Hugh Peskett. "We first approached the Lyon Court informally over 20 years ago and it has taken decades of genealogical research to back up our claim... I am indebted to Hugh Peskett, my fellow Buchanan clansman, for his meticulous research and enduring tenacity" said the Chief.
